Human Footprint

Over 6000 years ago, during the Neolithic Age, there were already human activities in the Coloane area of Macau. The land where M8 stands today has been present since then.

Over 2000 years

Land of the Qin Dynasty

Over 2000 years ago, during the Qin Dynasty, the site was already under the jurisdiction of Panyu County, Nanhai District.

Around 1553

Chinese-Portuguese Integration

Around 1553, during the Ming Dynasty's Jiajing period, during the era of world maritime navigation, the Portuguese obtained the right of residence in Macau and the site began to witness countless historical stories in the integration of Eastern and Western cultures and the coexistence of diverse civilizations.

In 1825

East-West Postal Connection

In 1825, the maritime postal service between Portugal and Macau was opened and Macau became the first city in Greater China to provide modern postal services. Later on, M8 developed a special relationship with the Post and Telecommunications Office, cementing their bond.

In 1863

Land Reclamation

In 1863, Macau only had 2.78 square kilometers of land, and the land where M8 stands today was part of the original land of Macau's territory.

In 1963

Post Office Dormitory

In 1963, the land where M8 stands today was formerly the dormitory building of the Post and Telecommunications Office. The reconstruction of M8 preserved some elements of the old building.

In 1999

Return to the Motherland

In 1999, Macau returned to the motherland, starting the journey of taking-off in the new century and the site returned to the embrace of the motherland.

In 2005

UNESCO World Heritage Site

In 2005, the Historic Centre of Macau, where M8 is located, is listed as a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site, with eight heritage sites within a radius of just over 100 meters.

M8, as one of Macau's original land, has witnessed the historical evolution of this vibrant city, marked by 8 significant historical landmarks. In September 2024, M8 unveil a brand new image as a cultural and commercial landmark in Macau.
